Your smile is the very first thing that people notice about you. Even before you have a chance to say anything, the appearance of your smile can greatly shape the way others view you. Even minor flaws in your teeth can greatly impact the quality of your smile, as well as your confidence. These flaws can cause people to get the wrong message about you. At Beyond Dental and Implant Center, we can correct the appearance of your teeth, enhancing the beauty of your smile, with veneers.

What are veneers?

Veneers are a treatment used to correct minor aesthetic issues with your teeth. They are small shell-like restorations that are made to cover the front surfaces of your visible teeth, effectively covering a variety of different flaws. With veneers, not only can we restore the appearance of your teeth, but we can also help to enhance the beauty of your smile and give you back your confidence.

What can veneers fix?

Veneers can be used to correct some different minor flaws in your teeth, including:

• Small chips or cracks in your tooth enamel.
• Spaces between your teeth.
• Minor overlapping.
• Misshapen teeth.
• Teeth that are smaller than those around them.
• Discoloration that cannot be effectively whitened.

What materials are used to make veneers?

Veneers are typically made from one of two materials, composite resin or ceramic. Both materials match the color of your natural teeth. However, ceramic is often the preferred material. While more expensive, it more closely mimics the property of your natural tooth enamel, providing a much more seamless restoration. Additionally, ceramic is stronger than composite resin. It can stand up to more use and typically lasts much longer.

How veneers are placed?

To get veneers, we first need to prepare our teeth. This is a process that involves removing a small amount of enamel from the front surfaces of each tooth to be treated. This procedure is done under a local anesthetic, which ensures comfort. After the teeth have been prepared, we then take impressions of your mouth. The impressions are sent to our dental lab, where they are used to custom-create your veneers. This process typically takes two weeks to complete, making a second appointment necessary.

After your veneers are completed and have been sent back to the office, you return for placement. Before bonding them to your teeth, however, we first check to ensure that they fit properly, that your bite is natural, and that they blend in with your surrounding teeth. If no adjustments are needed, we then use a special dental cement to bond them to your teeth. When you leave the office, your smile is noticeably enhanced.

What are some benefits of veneers?

There are several benefits that come with veneers.

• Veneers are biocompatible, meaning that they will not irritate your gum tissue.
• Veneers provide a seamless restoration of your smile and help to greatly improve your confidence. You will find that you are smiling at every opportunity.
• Veneers, particularly ceramic veneers, are stronger than bonding, providing a longer-lasting solution.
