Preparing for Implants Means Getting Your Mouth Healthy
Posted on 11/30/2019 by Dr. Cory Nguyen
Dental implants are a great way to restore your smile and make sure your mouth and jaw stay healthy. The procedure for installing dental implants is relatively simple, however, it does take time to perform. In many cases, the time it takes to prepare for dental implants is greater than actually having them installed.
It's fairly common for people considering dental implants to have an infection in their mouth. Unfortunately, infection makes having dental implants impossible. If dental implants are installed when the gums are infected, there is a possibility that they will fail and need to be removed. This process is not only time consuming, but also expensive. It's also a possibility that the gums become more infected after having dental implants installed, because the procedure can open your mouth up for more infections if its condition is already bad.
Prepping For Dental Implants
We recommend making sure your mouth is free of infection before considering dental implants. The best way to do this is to come to our office. While you're here, we'll inspect your mouth for any signs of infection as well as help you clean your mouth. We'll do this by scrubbing away the plaque from your teeth and gums. It may also be necessary to perform operations prior to installing dental implants to make sure your mouth can heal from any infections properly. If your gums are infected during this time, we'll also prescribe an antibiotic which will help clear the infection.
After your appointment, make sure to brush and floss twice a day. This will help stop the infection from spreading with the help of the antibiotic. Once your infection has cleared, we'll be able to install your dental implants. If you're interested in dental implants, give us a call. We can help you prepare for them!
